Rum Museum and the Old Mercedita Central
Explore the historical significance of The Old Sugar Mill in Mercedita Puerto Rico, a pivotal site that enabled the creation of Serralles Distillery, renowned for producing the world's most recognized Puerto Rican rum. This intersection of industries has played a crucial role in shaping the history, culture, and current economic landscape of Puerto Rico. The project proposes the design of the Rum Museum and The Old Sugar Mill Mercedita to reinvigorate the essence of the site, offering a contemporary program that fosters cultural, recreational, tourist, and economic activities.
The project aims to revive these industries, positioning them as cultural landmarks at the entrance of Ponce city. This innovative museum holds the potential to be the first of its kind in the Caribbean, providing extraordinary opportunities for tourism and national economic development. Recognized with the FLP-D Medal for excellence in design, and was featured at the 38th Architecture Convention, CAAPPR exhibition.
